  • December 3: International Day for Persons with Disabilities. The theme of this year is “United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by the person with disabilities”. On this very occasion Indian President Draupadi Murmu presented National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for the year 2023.
  • The International Institute for Management and Development (IMD) has published the World Digital Competitiveness Index 2023. This index is annually published by the IMD to help the countries navigate their management of digital environment.

  • The Bharatiya Janata Party  has won the Legislative Elections in the states of Rajsthan (199 seats) , Madhyapradesh (230 seats )and Chattisgarh (90 seats) . And the Congress has won the Telangana (119 seats) election becoming the first party to change the regime of the BRS since the inception of the state in 2014.
  • Minho and K-drama star Kee Dong Wook has been chosen as  the first global ambassadors for the ‘OlympicTM friends’ by the International Olympic Council (IOC). South Korea’s Gangwon province  is going to host the 2024 Youth Winter Olympic Games.
  • R Vaishali, the elder sister of youngest Indian Grand Master R Pragganandha, has become India’s 84th and 3rd female Grandmaster after crossing 2500 FIDE ranking points.
    • She is the third female GM of the country after Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli.
    • Koneru Humpy was the first female GM of India.
    • R Vaishali and R Pragganandha thus became the first Grandmaster siblings in the history of Chess.
    • Vishwanathan Anand was the first Indian GM.
  • Famous Malayalam actress and musician R. Subbalakshmi passes away in Thriruvanantha Puram.
  • India was re-elected to the International Maritime Organisation Council (IMO). India is in the Category of 10 states with “the largest interest in international seaborne trade”, alongside Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

  • The first woman to serve on the Supreme court of the USA, Sandra Day o’Connor has passed away.
  • The Bihar Government has launched ‘Mission Daksh’ (Dynamic Approach for knowledge and skill) to mentor 25 lakh struggling students between class 3 to 8 to help them in their Hindi and English fluency and Mathematical capabilities.
  • Ministry of Tourism has launched National Best Tourism Village Competition 2024 and the National Best Rural Homestay Competition 2024 to strengthen the promotion and development of Rural Tourism in the country.
  • INS Kadmatt, on a Long Range Operational Deployment to the North Pacific Ocean entered Yokosuka, Japan on Dec 02, 2023 for an Operational Turnaround (OTR).
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the CoP28 summit held in UAE, has proposed to host the CoP33 meeting in India in 2028 championing India’s commitment to the causes of environment awareness.
  • At the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Green Credit Initiative, a market-based mechanism designed to incentivize voluntary environmental actions. The initiative, supported by world leaders, aims to promote activities like tree plantation, water conservation, sustainable agriculture, and waste management.
  • India has abstained from voting in favour of a resolution in the CoP28 summit that had a clause demanding the curbing of use of greenhouse gases as coolant in the health sector – which India thinks is not immediately possible given the heavy dependency of the sector.
  • On the opening day of the CoP28 summit in Dubai, a Climate Loss and Damage Fund was launched by 196 nations to help vulnerable countries to cope with the impact of climate change. This damage fund is created in line with the proposal of CoP27 meeting held at Egypt that aims to help such countries whose carbon footprints are low but are facing severe burnt of the climate change like drought, flood and sea-level rise because of the developed nations’ earlier rampant industrial revolution and unchecked carbon emission. In this fund, the UK has contributed 40 million Euro, Germany 100 million Euro and UAE has contributed 100 million US Dollar.
  • The city of Firozabad in UP is to be renamed as ‘Chandra Nagar’ after the name of Raja Chandra Sen who ruled the region in the 16th Century.
  • Andry Rajoelina has once again been elected as the president of Madagascar.
  • Indian Railways has introduced a new cutting edge technology ‘Gajraj Suraksha’ to protect Elephant accidents on the Railway tracks. This system is to be introduced in WB, Jharkhand, Odisa, Chattisgarh and Tamil Nadu.
