  • 4th December: ‘Navy Day’ is celebrated in India on December 4th to commemorate the Indian Navy’s heroic ‘Operation Trident’ during the 1971 war when the Indian Navy successfully attacked the Karachi Naval base of Pakistan.
  • This year Indian Navy Day was celebrated in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra by the Naval Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar. On the occasion of Navy Day the PM has unveiled thestatue of Chatrapati Shivaji here.
    • This place bears historical significance for the Indian navy because in the 17th Century Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj built the famous ‘Sindhhu durg’ or ‘Sea Fort’ here.
    •  Chatrapati Shivaji is considered to be the father of Indian Navy. The Maratha emperor’s seal inspired the new Naval ensign of the Indian navy which was adopted last year by the Prime Minister during the Commissioning of the INS Vikrant.
  • On the occasion of Indian Navy day, Admiral R. Hari Kumar announced that Indian Navy’s Western Fleet’s commander Prerna Deosthalee will be the first Indian woman to command an Indian Naval Warship.
  • 5th December: This day is celebrated as the ‘World Soil Day’. The theme of this year is : Soil and Water, a source of life.
  • In the recently commenced Mizoram state assembly election, the Zoram People’s Movement has won securing 27 seats. Total number of assembly seats in Mizoram is 40, and to form government, 21 seats are required.
  • Amazon’s streaming  wing Prime Video has acquired the broadcasting rights of all the ICC events in Australia till 2027. The Prime Video Australia will stream all the International Men’s and Women’s Cricketing events including the T20 World Cup, Champions’ Trophy and WTC.
  • Kanchan Devi becomes the first woman Indian Forest Service Officer to be appointed as the Director General (DG) OF THE Indian Council of Forestry Research Education (ICFRE).
    • The Headquarter of the Indian Council  For Forest Research Education is in Dehradun. It is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
  • Recently world’s first portable hospital, ‘Aarogya Maitri Aid Cube” was unveiled in Gurugram. Aarogya Maitri Aid Cube is designed under the Project BHISMA (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri).
    • This portable cube, which can be airdropped or transported by road, is a modular trauma management system containing 72 detachable mini-cubes which has almost every kind of medical equipment such as a mini ICU, an operation theatre, cooking station. food, water, X-ray machine and more.
  • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has inaugurated the new factory of a renowned electronics manufacturer company, Dixon Technology, in Noida (UP).
  • Germany became the champion in the recently concluded FIFA U17 World Cup after beating France in a tie breaker.
    • Augustin Roberto of Argentina has bagged the Golden Boot becoming the highest goal scorer of the tournament with 8 goals and Germany’s Bruner bags the Golden Ball.
  • Syed Modi India International Badminton Tournament:
    • Venue: Babu Banarasidas Badmionton Academy, Lucknow, UP
    • Mens’ Singles Champion: Chi Yu Jen (Chinese Taipei)
    • Women’s Singles Champion: Nojomi Okuhara (Japan)
    • This tournament which earlier used to be a national level tournament, was introduced to the badminton circuit in 2009 as a BWF Grand Prix event.
  • World No. 1 Golfer Scottie Scheffler became the winner of the Hero World Challenge title. The tournament was hosted by the Golf legend Tiger Woods.
  • The State-controlled Oil and Natural Gas Corporation is to start the commercial production of crude oil from its flagship deep-sea project in Krishna-Godavar basin, ‘KG-DWN-98/2’.
  • India is going to host the eighth Global Technological Summit (GTS) from December 4 to December 6 in New Delhi aiming to discuss new technology, and digital infrastructure.
    • Theme: ‘Geopolitics of Technology’
  • President Draupadi Murmu has awarded the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune, the President’s Colour for providing a commendable service in the country and abroad.
    • This award, known as “Rashtrapati Ka Nishan”, is the highest honour given to a military unit.
  • Hindustan Uniliver Limited has appointed Tarun Bajaj as its Independent Director for five years.
  • Indian Navy recently hosted the virtual meeting of MAHASAGAR (Maritime Heads for Active Security And Growth for All in the Region) to bolster vigilance in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • In its latest prediction, the S&P Global has stated that India will become the third largest economy by 2030, and the country’s GDP is likely to grow from 6.4% in 2023 to 7% in 2026.
