Ranveer Allahabadia- How the Beer Brought the Brain to the Biceps

Saptarshi Nag

The latest social media uproar over a sleazy buffoon called Ranveer Allahabadia depicts a sorry state of affairs prevailing in the domain of social media or the so called dark humour many of the social media influencers are resorting to just to gain attention. In fact, this has become a fashion for every YouTuber to use slangues, gaalis so frequently that these days you really cannot watch a video in front of your kids or parents. There are exceptions, true. But exception is not a rule and having been a YouTuber myself for a considerable period of time with a considerable number of subscribers ( At the peak it was a little less than 200K) , I have personally felt that unless you create sensational or sensual contents in India, chances of your viewership seeing a steep rise is nowadays under a cloud of doubt. Either you have to tickle the senses or you have to create sensational stories laden with propaganda, community bashing or crude humour often hurting the sentiments of others. And I cannot stoop to such levels. Vulgarity and agenda based propagatory contents full of hatred or unjustified adulations have taken the driver’s seat while morality and ethical values are just the onlookers. It is so much disheartening to see that even a movie reviewer nowadays is resorting to such cheap stunts to get more views. I was rather shocked to see some of Bengal’s known film reviewers using ‘Gaalis’ and slangues in their thumbnails. People they are catering to get hooked to see their favourite ‘Gaalis’ being used by their favourite influencers. Sad but true.

Deep down inside, I have always been positive about the resurrection of positivity, positive contents and positive influencers spreading information without any bias, any hatred, any propaganda. But everytime I see a content coming out, I feel that exasperation deep down inside. When will this dark phase be over? When will the negativity muscled by the likes of Beer Biceps around us be overshadowed by the positivity? The transition may be boring. Where is sensation? Where are the ‘gaalis’? Where are those double entendres tickling our primal instincts? But being an ardent believer of slowness of results when the chips are down and yet you are thinking in a positive way, I strongly feel that negativity is so synonymous with ephemerality that the perpetuality of positive words, positive beliefs, positive thinking will always be the long race horse when pitted against the cheapness of the contents our people love to watch these days.

Coming back to the crook Allahabadia, I was expecting him to change his surname to Prayagrajia. Pun intended! I am not digging deep into the political angle of this fiasco surrounding this buffoon’s takedown. A couple of years back when I first watched his videos where he was dealing with all the celebrities with such a panache, even I was a bit triggered. Once beaten, twice shy. I had followed one motivational speaker of India with more than a crore followers. Once he was criticized by a fellow YouTuber. The very next day, he literally went berserk over his own criticism. He filed a lawsuit. He started abusing his critic. He wrote venomous posts lambasting the unfortunate critic. He made it sure that the YouTuber had to leave the space of YT. That day I knew his true colours. His actual ‘Self’ lurked beneath that sweet smile, those motivational words, those chants of millions of his followers. I am not naming him. Any guess?

Hamare pyare Mitra Ranveer ji also had trodden the same path. Hiding the true colours beneath a face full of appreciation, full of positivity, full of curiosity about India’s mystic heritage. I followed him on a couple of platforms. Then I could follow a pattern. He was posting pictures of his devotion to his own religion. He was bringing guests who were catering to his demand of being partisan to a particular feeling. People were being fooled by the colours of glamour he was bringing on his show. Little did people notice that he was promoting astrology over science. Once he even remaked, those obsessed with science will laugh at this truth of astrology but they are all loosers. None objected. Who will? Everyone is under the influence of the drug called ‘Social Influencer’. I am not citing the rewards he received and the photos he posted to show his devotion to the deities of a community. I may be a believer of a God. Do I need to flaunt that everytime I appear? Where is the beauty of a divine connection then? A true devotee will rather be silent in his manifestation of his devotion. But this crook disguised in the garb of religion, devotion and bhakti had something else in his mind.

Let me share what he exactly asked the contestant of a show which is again known for its crude humour often hurting the sentiments of an innocent participant hosted by an equally pathetic immoral person who was even invited to KBC hosted by the ‘Great’ Bacchan. He asked ” Would you rather watch your parents having S*X for the rest of your life or would you love to join them and stop it once and for all?” And his so-called witty male counterpart asked the female contestant ‘ Has the sensation in your VA**NA gone forever?” And there was a lady named Apoorva Mukhija who asked that unfortunate lady conestant if she had seen that part of her mother after being born?
You call this a modern society? Think twice.

My goodness ! Where are we heading to in the name of being modern? He did not stop there. He even asked that contestant to suck his manhood in lieu of 2 Crore Rupees. I was literally in shock seeing such level of perversion and bestiality and thought that someone should write it down. He is a classical example of how if we, the viewers allow nonsensical content creators to reach such level of pinnacle of success, the ethical backbone of this country is going to see the nadir of perversion.

I hope the content creators of India including those from Bengal will learn from the downfall. Please be more responsible. You are young now but one day you will be parents. You will have kids. And may be it is wiser to make contents which will make them proud one day. Humour is always a beautiful word. But please do not tarnish the beauty of it by resorting to the lowest level of morality just to gain popularity.

The governments must come up with plans for making this society free from such insects. Please watch the original video to see the level of ethical degradation. You may find it on YT.

My book ’28 Days of Thinking Differently’ is something different from this culture. I may be outdated, I still value relations and during these tumultous times if you need a respite, please do read my new book.

  1. No one’s really talking about this, or at least I haven’t seen anyone bring it up. Sir, everything you mentioned here is seriously relatable. In this era of YT Shorts and Reels, this is exactly what happens—we randomly come across content we’re not even mentally ready for, packed with negativity and unjustified adulation, often from the very creators we look up to.

And honestly, I’ve come to realize that most people are just hiding behind an invisible mask, curating an illusion of perfection and virtue. You literally wrote exactly what we feel.

Sir, I think the person you’re talking about is Mr. Maheshwari. Am I right?
