ABC, July28: The menace of rash bike driving continues to evade the baton of law even though stringent rules are in place. Recently, an innocent footpath dweller lost his life due to such unhindered speed of a two-wheeler in the wee hours of night. This takes the tally of such unfortunate deaths in this year within this locality alone to seven which includes one woman, two children and two bikers as well. Driving bikes without helmets is a common sight these days for the people of this town. Uncontrolled speed, unbearable popping sound from the silencer pipes, drunken driving- all these are adding to the woes of the citizens.
Despite several complaints to the local police, no formal action has yet been taken, letting the culprits roam Scot- free.
” I have lost my son due to this horror and I am still waiting for justice”, Namita Devi started weeping as she was telling us about that horrific accident that took away the life of her only son.
” We are leaving no stones unturned to combat this menace. Several measures are being taken already. Spot fines, installation of CCTV cameras at several places, surveillance by drones are to name a few”, claimed the Superintendent of Police of the district.
But who will be answerable for those deaths? The town still looks for a clue.
