o   SSB is responsible for guarding the Indian Borders with Nepal and Bhutan. It is one of the Seven CAPFs  (Central Armed Police Force) under the MoHA: Assam Riffles (AR), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Security Guards (NSG), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

·         The Government of India has announced that Socialist Icon and Ex- Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur will be Posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of India. It is on the occasion of his 100th Birth Anniversary. He was popularly called as ‘Jananayak’.

o   Karpoori Thakur will be remembered for championing reservation for backward classes for the first time in India. It paved the way for future Mandal Commission in future.

o   Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian award given by the President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.

o   The first Bharat Ratna Award was awarded to C.V Raman for his contribution in science.

o   Lal Bahadur Shastri is the first person to be awarded this award posthumously.

o   Sachin Tendulkar Became the Youngest individual at the age of 40 to receive Bharat Ratna.

·         The Ministry of                 Tourism will organise the annual event of “Bharat Parv” in Red Fort, New Delhi from 23rd January  to 31st January.  In this event various spectacular tableaus of different theme and regions will be showcased on the occasion of Republic Day of India.

·         India has taken  the initiative of launching “Alliance for Global GoodGender Equity and Equality” at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland.

o   Objective: Taking joint global initiatives for women empowerment and women development.

·         Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah has launched the all new book on the legendary Ahom military general  Lachit Barpukhan , “Assam’s Brave Heart Lachit Barpukhan” written by Arup Kumar Dutta. Lachit Barpukhan  was a commander in the Ahom Kingdom that was established in 1228 in the Brahmaputra Valley.  The Ahom army led by Lachit Barpukhan successfully defeated the mighty Mughal Army in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671.

·         During the consecration ceremony of the Ram lalla in Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir, indigenous portable hospital – Arogya Maitri Disaster Management Cube  – was deployed under the Project BHISM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri). Its the world’s first portable hospital cube.

·         India becomes the 4th largest stock market of the world in terms of value of market capitalization after surpassing HongKong.

·         Prime Minister Narendra Modi  has launched Suryodaya Yojana to install rooftop solar panels on 1 cr+ house. It is in line with the national target of achieving 500 GW energy by the year 2030.

·         Ram Mandir Additional Info:

o   The Chief Architect of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir is the celebrated architect Chandrakant B Sompura.

o   Archaeologist Prof BB Lal had led the excavation team at Ram Janmabhoomi site in 1976. He had been the DG of the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) from 1968 to 1972.

·         Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra sought blessings at the Sri Sri Auniati Satra, a 300+ year old Vaishnavite Monastery in Assam’s Majuli Island.

o   Majuli is the largest  inhabited riverine island in the world that is listed in the UNESCO WHS tentative list.

·         The Government of India has launched ‘Anuvadini App’  – an AI based translation tool. 25th Januaray: This day is celebrated as National Voters Day commemorating the foundation of the Election Commission of India on 25th January 1950.

·         The first carbon-neutral sports city is going to be set up in Kochin, Kerala. It will be set up at the Chengamanad Village near the Cochin International Airport and it will feature an International Cricket Stadium with a seating capacity of 40,000.

·         ‘To Kill a Tiger’ a Canadian documentary based on Indian set up and directed by Nisha Pahuja has been selected at the Oscars 2024.

·         After a prolonged delay, Turkey has finally approved Sweden’s application to be admitted into NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation). Now only one country Hungary is to ratify Sweden’s  application to get it admitted into the political-military organisation.

·         75th Republic Day Highlights:

o   The Official Program was held at Kartavya Path in New Delhi and it started from Vijay Chowk. The tricolor was unfurled by President Draupadi Murmu followed by the National Anthem.

o   The parade was commanded by Parade Commander Lieutenant Gen. Bhavanish Kumar.

o   The Republic Day parade began with a performance by the “Avahan” an all 112 women band  and featuring music instruments like Sankh, Naadswaram and Nagada.

o   The Parade was moreover Women Centric featuring tableaux representing various ministries.

o   The Centre of Attraction was the indigenously developed Tejas Light Combat Aircraft and the C-295 Transport Aircraft.

·         Dr Nitya Anand, the man who discovered India’s first oral contraceptive pill and world’s first and only non-steroid, non-hormonal once-a-week contraceptive pill  ‘Saheli’ dies at 99.

·         NASA’s Mars Helicopter ‘Ingenuity’ has flown its last flight. This copter was originally intended for 5 fights but completed 72 flights , was sent to Mars along with the Perseverance Rover.

·         Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) has launched an in-house Journal ‘Pahal’ as a significant step towards ensuring transparency , accountability and promoting green practices.

o   From 2014-15 to 2021-22:

§  Total enrollment in higher education increased 26.5%.

§  A substantial increase of 65.2% was observed in Higher Education of ST.

§  45% increase in OBC students.

§  361 Universities were established.

o   In the Mens’ Doubles category, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden won the Title.

·         After defeating India in the finals, Netherlands becomes the champion of the inaugural edition of ‘ Hockey 5s Women’s World Cup’ that was held between January 24 to January 27 in Muscat, Oman.

·         The International Cricket Council (ICC) has lifted the ban on the Sri Lanka Cricket Board that it was imposed on 10th November 2023 on the ground of political interference in the board administration.

·         Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal becomes the quickest batsmen to smash a triple century in First Class Cricket. He scored a scorching 323 off just 160 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in  the Ranji Trophy.

·         At the ongoing  ISSF World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, Indian Olympian Divyansh Singh Panwar wins Gold Medal in the Air Rifle Shooting  event with a world record score. And at the same time, Sonam Uttam Maskar bagged her maiden silver medal at the women’s 10 meter event.

·         Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has flagged off 144 hi-tech vehicles from Jalandhar under the ‘Sadak Suraksha Force’. It is a scheme by the state government of Punjab that aims to reduce road fatalities by saving upto 3000 lives every year. Anyone in the state can dial 112 for availing help, and a vehicle will reach the spot within ten minutes. The vehicles will cover a distance of 5500 kms of state and National Highways. The Sadak Suraksha Force will be lead by Indian Hockey Team’s former captain and DIG traffic  Gaganjit Singh.

·         The Fourth Edition of Rusoma Orange Festival was held at the Rusoma Village, Nagaland.This year the theme is ‘Organic Orange’.

·         Researchers at the ICAR- National Bureau of Fish Genetics Resources (ICAR-NBFGR) have identified two new species of congrid eels from the Gulf of Mannar and the Kerala coast by the name of Ariosoma Kannani and Ariosoma Gracile respectively.

·         The 7th edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ was held at Bharat Mandapam at the Pragati Maidan New Delhi. It is part of the larger movement – ‘Exam Warriors’ – an initiative by the Prime Minister to create a stress free atmosphere for the youngsters where the unique individuality of each child is celebrated, encouraged and allowed to express itself fully.

·         NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope captures the picture of the nebula Shaprless 2-106 (Sh2-106) that looks like a ‘Snow Angel’ for its unique twin lobes of hot gas that creates the wings of the angel against the backdrop of a cold medium and in the middle there is a young star surrounded by red dust named IRS-4.

·         During its anti-piracy operations along the East Coast of Somalia and Gulf of Aden, INS Sumitra  responded to a distress call from a Iranian Vessel and subsequently intercepted the hijack ensuring safe passage of the 17 crew members.
